Chicago White Sox throw the World Series in 1919

The 1919 series will always be tainted.  The 9 game series was ended in 8 games when the Cincinnati Red's defeated the Chicago Black Sox.  Several of the Chicago players were proven to have gambled on the game, then throwing it for the cash.  This event led to the electing of a brand new position in baseball we now know as the commissioner.  Looking back on Bud Selig's career, maybe this was more of a bad thing than we thought.

In 1989 (three years after he retired) Rose agreed to permanent ineligibility from the game of baseball because of accusations that he bet on the game while still playing.  After years of public denial, Rose finally admitted to betting on baseball, but not on the Reds.

Sorry to add another steroid one, but this was a pretty big deal at the time.  With so many steroids flowing through his system that his eyes actually turned yellow, Johnson ran the fastest race of all time.  He was caught for doping almost immediately after the race.  His time of 9.79 (if not illegal) would have stood as the world record for nearly a decade.
