Top High School Sports Programs in the Country

Punahou (Honolulu)
Punahou, has won more state championships (322) than any other high school in the nation and has a tradition of alumni competing in the Olympics winning seven gold, five silver, and three bronze medals, competing in nine of the past ten games. The Buffanblu won 16 state titles last year including boys air riflery, girls canoe paddling, wrestling, and girls water polo. 12 seniors received Division I athletic scholarships and one Alumni (Brack Obama)could win the most powerful competition in the country, becoming president of the United States.
Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.)
Mater Dei's sports programs have proven to be one of the best in not only California but the nation as well. Mater Dei has won 7 state championships in basketball (1987, 1990, 1995, 2001, 2003, 2007, and 2008)and 9 in football (1956, 1957, 1960, 1965,1991, 1994, 1996, 1998 and 1999) with two national championship wins in 1994 and 1996. Last years football team sent 19 seniors to Division 1 schools and junior quarterback Matt Barkley became the first Gatorade Football Player of the Year who was not a senior. Brothers Travis and David Wear, both forwards who committed to UNC, helped Mater Dei win its recent state titles titles.
Tupelo (Miss.)
The Golden Wave won state championships in boys bowling, swimming and golf, while the boys and girls cross-country and tennis won as well. In 2008 Tupelo won the stat championship in baseball as well and was ranked #1 in the nation for 2 weeks behind Seniors Kyle Thornton, an Ole Miss signee and Gardner Richey, Samford-bound pitcher-outfielder.
Cy-Fair (Cypress, Texas)
Cy-Fair captured the state championship in girls basketball with Stanford-bound forward and Gatorade National Girls Basketball Player of the Year Nneka Ogwumike leading the team with 18.2 points. They also competed in the state semifinals in girls volleyball, and also claimed district championships in girls track, girls cross country and baseball. The football team led by Youtube sensation and Michigan bound running back Sam McGuffie made a playoff appearance last season. Cy-Fair's softball and girls soccer teams also made the playoffs, and UCLA-bound Jennifer Lamb, the Region 5 girls' swimmer of the year, earned a bronze medal at state.
Poly (Long Beach, Calif.)
Since 1996 Poly's high school football team has gone undefeated three times and won five championships. In Poly's 110-year history over 40 grads have gone on to play in the NFL and this years team had 13 seniors sign D-I football letters of intent. Girls Basketball has won three straight state titles lead by future Rutger 6' 1" forward Jasmine Dixon. Track tends to be more dominate with boys and girls teams having won a combined seven state titles since 1997.The boys golf team went undefeated in the league last year, along with the boys' tennis team making an appearance to the CIF section finals two years in a row. Even their cross-country and badminton teams have won three titles in a row.
St. Xavier (Cincinnati)
As of December 2007, the Bombers have won 39 state titles, the most boys titles in Ohio. St. X's swimming and diving program has won district, sectional and city-wide titles in every year since 1970, capturing 29 Ohio state championships during this span. Winning the Swimming World Magazine national high school swimming champions in 1973, 1992, 2001, and 2007. It also had a member on the United States Olympic Swim Team in 1992 and 1996 (Joe Hudepohl). In 2007 the St. X Bombers football team had the toughest schedule in the country but still went 15-0 to go on to win the Division I state title.
St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale, Florida)
STA has won the Broward County All-Sports Trophy for 21 consecutive years and the Dodge Sunshine Cup FHSAA All-Sports award for 12 consecutive years. St Thomas has won 25 mens state championships since 1985 and 50, yes you read that correctly 50 womens state titles since 1979. I mean future Hall of Fame Wide receiver Chris Carter helps coach the football team.
