Excuse the mess. We're doing some extensive house cleaning. Enjoy the lists in the meantime...
Best second basemen I have ever seen. 12 time all star, 10 time gold glove winner, 4 time silver slugger, 1992 ALCS MVP, and the 1998 all star MVP. His career stats are just as impressive, career batting average of .300, 2724 career hits, 474 stolen bases, and 504 doubles. Those are quite the credentials. Not to mention he was part of one of the best up the middle combinations ever when we played for the Indians with Omar Vizquel.Rogers Hornsby
Career .358 hitter (current NL record), 2930 hits, and 301 home runs. Hornsby won two triple crowns, one in 1922, and one in 1925. Not to mention he batted .424 in 1924. I wish I could have seen this guy play!Jackie Robinson
Taking a look at some old school stats. 6 time all star, 1947 NL rookie of the year, 1949 NL MVP, not to forget he was the first African-American in the MLB. His career stats are also impressive (for his time period), batter .311, 1,518 hits, and 137 home runs. But it is kind of hard to compare old school players to the new era of baseball.Craig Biggio
I don't think I really ever knew how much of a stud Biggio was until now. Here are some of his numbers. Seven time all star, 4 time gold glove winner, 5 time silver slugger, and 12th on all time hits with 3060. Pretty sick nasty.Robinson Cano
Cano was called up from the minors on May 3, 2005, where he was hitting .333, to replace Tony Womack. In his first major league season with the Yankees he hit .297 with 14 home runs and 62 RBI, coming in second in the American League rookie of the year balloting. Cano made the 2006 All Star Team but was unable to play because of a ham string injury that put him on the 15-Day disabled list. In just Four seasons he has a career batting average of .303 with 129 2B, 12 3B, 52 HR, 257 RBI's and 11 SB, with a .982 fielding percentage.Joe Morgan
Morgan was traded from the Houston Astros to the Cincinnati Reds on November 29, 1971, creating one of the best teams in the majors. Though he had impressive numbers before joining the Reds his career would take off in Cincy. Throughout his 22 year career Morgan would be one of the most dominate players in the game appearing in 10 all star games, winning the Golden Glove Award five straight years, wining five MVP awards and 2 World Championships in 1975 and 1976. His career stats are just as impressive, batting .271, with 449 2B, 96 3B, 268 HR, 1133 RBI's, and 689 SB.Ryne Sandberg
Sandberg started his career on September 2, 1981 with the Philadelphia Phillies. Throughout his 16 seasons in MLB he would win 9 straight Gold Gloves from 1983-1991, ten All-Star Appearances from 1984-1993, 7 Silver Slugger awards, 1 National MVP award and he won the Home Run Derby in 1990. He had 2396 hits, with 403 doubles, 76 triples, 282 HR's, 1061 RBI's, and 344 SB, with a .285 career batting average.Lou Whitaker
In Lou's 18 year career he was a 5 time all star, 3 time gold glove winner, and rookie of the year in 78.Chase Utley
Utley made his Major League debut on April 4, 2003 for the Philadelphia Phillies, where his first major league at bat was for a Grandslam. The first two years of his career he alternated between the Phillies and their triple A team before becoming a regular starter in 2005, where he has established himself as one of the best hitting 2nd basemen in the league. In just six seasons he has made the All Star Team twice (06-07), won 2 Silver Slugger Awards (06-07), and 3 time NL MVP. His career batting average is .301 with 166 2B, 20 3B, 118 HR, 444 RBI's and 52 SB. He has only proven to get better, leading the league in Home Runs with 21 in 2008.Brandon Phillips
